Pearl Jam: Home and Away
MUSEUM OF POP CULTURE
BRANDING, PRINT, AND DIGITAL DESIGN
Pearl Jam: Home and Away opened at MoPOP in August 2019. The opening coincided with “The Home Shows”, a series of benefit concerts by Pearl Jam to raise money to aid homelessness in Seattle. From the MoPOP website:
“Get a first-hand look at Pearl Jam’s journey from 1990 to the present and into the future through more than 200 artifacts directly from Pearl Jam band members and their Seattle warehouse, including instruments, stage props, and original art.”
The exhibition is an eclectic mix of art and styles used by the band over the years. With this in mind, I wanted to come up with a concept that captured that variety and communicated how long the band has been recording and touring. I used scans of tickets as well as photos of artifacts to create a design that visually illustrated the band’s journey and evolution over the years. Pearl Jam fans will recognize iconic imagery from albums and tours, as well as instruments played by the band.
I was responsible for designing marketing materials promoting the exhibition including posters, billboards, flyers, and ads that were distributed throughout Seattle.
