Sound Off! 2020
MUSEUM OF POP CULTURE
BRANDING, LOGO DESIGN, PRINT, AND DIGITAL DESIGN
Sound Off! is a youth music competition that focuses on under-21 artists in the Pacific Northwest. The competition is designed to promote local music and give amateur musicians a professional platform:
Participants get the opportunity to showcase their original music in MoPOP’s Sky Church, a world-class venue, connect with peer musicians, and are mentored by industry leaders and an artistic community invested in welcoming them as full-fledged members of one of the nation’s most vibrant music scenes.
In 2019, I was asked to design a new look for the competition. In the past, the look of the event was updated every year. In this iteration of the event, the organizers wanted a logo that would remain consistent and begin to build brand equity, but still have designs that changed each year.
A FLEXIBLE SYSTEM
It was important that this brand could had room for evolution and growth over time. One of the ways I did this was by selecting a typeface with a wide range of widths and weights. Several of these variations can be seen in to the logo. The idea is that a new designer could pick up the styleguide and make new design choices while still relating to the logo fans have come to know.
